Our HBNO essential oil aromatic and flavor ingredients, as well as our fixed (carrier) oils, are used as functional ingredients in a variety of home and industrial products. Scroll below at the bottom of this page to see our products listed by function and usage.
As Personal Care ingredients, our oils are used in Cosmetics, Soaps, Body Lotions, Body Sprays and Mists, Skin and Hair Moisturizers, Shampoos and Conditioners, Lip Balms, and Oral Hygiene Products.
As Fragrance Ingredients, essential oils are used not only in aromatherapy and cosmetics and perfumery, but also to create pleasant-smelling Home Care products, such as laundry soaps, household cleaners, scented candles, incenses, room mists, and deodorizers.
As Flavor Ingredients, many essential oils are “Generally Recognized as Safe for Human Consumption” by US FDA and FEMA. These GRAS substances may be used in mixtures for food applications when used in a customary and safe manner and quantity according to legal and FEMA/FDA GRAS guidelines in your food product formulations.
As Natural Food Preservatives, GRAS essential oils and fixed oils can be added to food products in order to prolong the shelf life of foodstuffs that are susceptible to spoilage, such as meat, fish, poultry, dairy products, and fruits.
As for Pest Control, essential oils and fixed oils are increasingly being sought after – in lieu of synthetic pesticides -- as natural “biopesticides” to prevent pest contamination of stored foodstuffs, and to treat pest infestation of crops in both agri-business and in home gardens. In particular, Neem Oil – a fixed oil that is cold-pressed from the seeds of the Neem tree (Azadirachta indica) -- is the oil most widely-used as a biopesticide. Other oils commonly used for pest control are Castor oil, Citronella oil, Lavender oil, Lavandin oil, Rosemary oil, Thyme oil, Clove oil, Oregano oil, Peppermint oil, and Tea Tree oil.
Essential oils are used in beekeeping for pest control, hive health, and swarm prevention. Note that some oils can be toxic to bees, even in small amounts, so it is important to research how to use specific oils safely with bees. Some essential oils used in beekeeping are Lemongrass, Peppermint, Japanese Peppermint Arvenis, Thyme, Spearmint, Lavender, Lavandin, and Wintergreen.
Our Essential oils are commonly used industrially in cleaning and janitorial products, with citrus oils among the most popular for their degreaser properties and fresh-smelling scents. Strong-smelling essential oils are used in products intended to neutralize or mask unpleasant malodors in places such as lavatories, hospitals and nursing homes, cooking facilities, or to freshen up and restore old musty homes and automobiles.
Another industrial use of our plant-derived oils is as an additive to Paints, Stains, and Varnishes. As examples, Olive oil makes paints and varnishes more flexible and less likely to crack. Walnut oil is water-resistant and gives paints and varnishes a hard, durable finish. Safflower oil gives paints and varnishes a clear, bright finish. Castor oil helps paints and varnishes adhere to the surface being painted or varnished.
Consult with our HBNO experts to discuss how our oils can be used in your particular product formulations. Note that many of our HBNO Essential Oils are USDA Organic certified.
